Fashion Takes a Retro Turn for Fall/Winter 2007

"I grew up surrounded by artists and writers, all very strong, sexy and opinionated," says Providence, R.I.-based Sally Bridge, who will unveil her "Retro Classic" collection for Fall/Winter 2007 at The Downtown Showroom, 209 West 38th Street, Suite 1007 (between Seventh and Eighth Avenue), February 9-12, 10 am to 5:00 pm. Sally, president and head designer of the Better Bridge's women's wear company favors '50s styling with a modern edge; inspirations are as diverse as home decor, travel—and the film "Bell, Nook & Candle." Kim Novac is a favorite muse. "She's womanly and sexy without having to show alot of skin."

Her customer, who ranges in age from 25 to 65, will crave the latest hour-glass shaped looks: a pegged skirt with pocket detail, cut to follow the curve of the leg in cashmere blend and camelhair/angora ($148) and matching fitted Lucca jacket ($198); a sleeveless shell with ribbon detail and back zipper ($98); and box-pleated Beverly Dress in a silk toile print ($328, shown with orange leather belt by Massimiliano Musina). Topping the glamour-girl silhouette is an above-the-knee, 3/4 sleeved car coat in wool/nylon plush ($198). The colors—black, burnt orange, cream and charcoal—were inspired by an autumnal mound of persimmons, leaves and stones she spotted in Umbria Italy. Since the introduction of her company at the Showroom Show in New York for Fall-Winter 2007, the Sally Bridge collection, which wholesales from $98-348, has sold in 453 specialty stores and boutiques, including Harari in Los Angeles and Runway in New York.

"I would love to add Henri Bendel to the list," says Sally. "I have a unique voice—we'd be a good fit."
